SLA was on site with the welder and contractor putting the finishing touches on the stair screen at the Del Monte house in Ocean Beach.

SAL has recently returned from a site visit in Costa Rica. The aerial photography platform was able to capture bird eye view photos of the site on the Osa Peninsula.

-May 27, 2010

SLA tested the aerial photography platform designed and built by the firm's interns, Malachi Hernandez, Tyler Taylor, and Nathalie Egli. The photography platform consists of a camera and shutter release mechanism hoisted into the air by a weather balloon. The tests were successful, and the rig will be used to map the new project site in Costa Rica. (See April 1 below for project site photos)

SLA is working on a retreat on the Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica at the edge of the Pacific Ocean and the Corcovado National Park. The “final frontier and the most biologically intense place on earth” National Geographic, which will be Steven’s biggest environmental challenge ever “Nature & Man”, stay tuned…

Del Monte - 10 months later and 90% complete the first of two homes will be complete in May of 2010.

Bermuda is under construction and is about 50% complete in Point Loma.

A new year, new projects, SLA just finished the Holocaust Memorial Competition in Atlantic City, to be judged in May of 2010.

SLA will be attending the "Rob Machado Surf Experience and Cardiff Green Expo." They will have a booth displaying current active and passive green technologies.

SLA is currently designing the Ocean Beach Redevelopment Area which comprises of the following:
Housing - Ocean Park Villas - 12 units over subterranean parking which fronts on both park and beach.
Park - Public right of way recreational improvements.
Office - Mixed-Use Housing and Commercial project over subterranean parking.
Ocean Beach Lifeguard Station- Complete renovation, improvements to the building, and landscaping to the public park area.

Del Monte - Two homes in Ocean Beach were just recently approved by Coastal & Planning Commission and will begin construction this month.

Neptune House in Encinitas "Tower of Light" is finally completed and will appear in Loft Publications from Barcelona.

Steven Lombardi’s Urban Studio @ Woodbury University’s San Diego campus has drawn local attention in Ocean Beach. The Studio erased the automobile and went green, creating a more walkable community and creating more bicycle paths.

-NEW OFFICE

Steven Lombardi's new office is set to break ground this fall. This mixed-use project consists of 5,000 sq. ft. of under-ground parking, 8,000 sq. ft. of residential town homes and 1,100 sq. ft. of common outdoor space for the residential units. The 1,200 sq. ft. office will have loft style 17' ceilings and retractable walls going out to a private landscaped garden. It is also a short walk (600') to the beach to check the surf at the Ocean Beach lifeguard station.

Directly north of the lifeguard station's public parking, SLA is designing 10 beach townhomes that will front the ocean's park area with views north to La Jolla, and south to Ocean Beach Pier, the longest pier in California.

-PUBLICATIONS

SLA is also working on new Publications in London, San Diego, La Jolla and Point Loma.

SLA's new publication is in 2A Architecture & Art magazine in Dubai on "Urbanism of Tourism". 2A Magazine.

SLA's work is also being published in two books "Contemporary International Architecture" in Asia, to be out this winter.
